Football rivalry renewed in Seattle-News1130

SEATTLE. (NEWS1130)-Whitecaps FC and Seattle Sounders FC face off in the Emerald City-for the first meeting between the two groups in the Cascadia Cup derby.

With Vancouver and Portland timber now members of the MLS, this year marks the first time since 2008 the Cascadia Cup is based on fan returns the starting shape of a three-team, which started in 2004 between the ' Caps, wooden and sounders.

Vancouver is in the midst of a 13-game winless streak and shocks for Qwest field for the first time in MLS play.  The group will be Eric Hassli striker assembly back in the line-up. The French striker assembly lost his fight last weekend with real Salt Lake.  He took his third red card of the season with the Whitecaps 1-1 draw with Golden USA on June 1.

The ' Caps will also have midfielder Michael Boxall and centerback Nizar Khalfan back from international duty, but is still without midfielder Terry Dunfield.  Playing away to Canada at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Tonight's match marks the 112th year Vancouver and Seattle have met competitive play.  The teams faced-off in the pre-season with the ' Caps bearing the game 3-2.
