Boys Eastlake high school football squad (12-3-2) with three goals in a nine-minute span of the first half of the check out and cruise to a 3-0 victory over ninth-ranked Garfield High School (16-3-1).
The group played Saturday in the semifinals of the State in Eastlake high school. At stake was a berth in the state semifinals Friday night Lakewood.
The visiting Pirates came out flying in the opening 10 minutes, creating pressure for defence wolves. Under the leadership of Michael Gallagher, had a strong attack, allowing the time to get rolling at a later time during the first half.
James Gee and Sean Klauer hit first for Eastlake as their tireless efforts to create opportunities for paid, particularly in the 21st minute. Klauer outhustled the defender of Garfield creating a turnover and then storming the Bulldog broke away, Jackson White Wolves goalie to lead 2-0.
Soon after this, Gerard Galvin, senior, sealed the contest for Eastlake with a header brilliantly-executed outside of a Corner, pushing the lead wolves 3-0.
"Evan (Yamada) played a long ball and my teammates did a great job creating the space for me," Galvin said. "This is something that we have throughout the year."
Eastlake coach Adam Gervis was pleased with his team's ability to cash with scoring opportunities against Garfield.
"Really, really nice game," Gervis said. "We had three opportunities and buried them all."
In the second half for wolves became more than a battle of pressure from the Dodgers and counteracting this harsh treatment and possession. Except for a pair of shots hitting the crossbar, Eastlake kept continuously Garfield wonderful goals for wolves and audit defense.
Gervis was ekstatikis on the performance of his group. "Can you do against (Garfield), says a lot of legchos because it is a very good team," he said.
With a matchup pending during the seventh-ranked Kentwood state semifinals in both Galvin and Gervis is willing to take the next challenge.
"Senior year is exactly what I have so far," Galvin said. "We want to win a State Championship."
Gervis said: "this is where the fun really starts, you will need to focus to the next step."
He also lauded the effort all the players in the final four.
"We have a large group of children," said Gervis.
Eastlake will receive the semifinals Friday in Kentwood State 4A Boys Soccer at Lang owing to its Lakewood. The start time is 6 pm
