Soccer-Struggling Real Zaragoza fire coach Aguirre - Reuters Africa

 Real Zaragoza have rescinded the contract of coach Javier Aguirre, the La Liga club said on Friday, following a woeful run which has left them bottom of the standings.

"Real Zaragoza have agreed with Javier Aguirre to cancel his contract as first team coach," Zaragoza said in a statement on their website (www.realzaragoza.com).

"The situation the Aragonese team is in required an urgent change of course, which is why this agreement was reached," Real added.

Former Mexico boss Aguirre, who has also coached La Liga sides Atletico Madrid and Osasuna, was appointed in November 2010 to replace the sacked Jose Aurelio Gay and the 53-year-old helped Zaragoza narrowly avoid relegation last term.

With 16 of 38 matches played this season, they have just 10 points and are four behind 19th-placed Racing Santander.

"The players will get through this," Aguirre was quoted as saying in local media on Friday.

"I would have liked to stay to the end but I understand that these things happen in football."

Like many Spanish clubs, Zaragoza are suffering severe financial difficulties and applied to go into voluntary administration in June.

The newly-appointed members of their board of directors would hold a news conference later on Friday, the club said.

Vacaville Soccer Coach Arrested on Suspicion of Child Molestation - Patch.com

A Yolo County man, who coaches soccer at Soccer Nation in Vacaville and Vacaville Youth Soccer League, was arrested Monday night on charges of child molestation.

Christan James Rooms, 29, was arrested on a warrant charging him with “lewd and lascivious acts with a minor with force or fear,” as well as five counts of sexual assault on a child.

Rooms, who is a licensed foster parent, was arrested without incident in front of his home in Esparto and is now being housed at the Monroe Detention Facility on $2,750,000 bail.

The warrant for the suspect’s arrest was issued as the result of a comprehensive investigation by Yolo County Sheriff’s detectives. This investigation revealed that Rooms had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy to whom Rooms was mentoring and acting as the minor’s bowling and soccer coach.

During this investigation, it was also revealed that Rooms is a licensed foster parent. Yolo County Child Welfare Services immediately removed a 6-year-old foster child from Rooms’s custody. The 6 year old was at school when CWS picked him up.

Detectives have also executed a search warrant at Rooms’ residence and have collected items they believe will provide additional evidence in this case. 

Rooms is a youth soccer coach with Vacaville Youth Soccer League and Soccer Nation in Vacaville.  Prior to this press release, sheriff’s detectives were attempting to notify these organizations. Rooms is a licensed foster parent through the State of California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division.

Rongen to coach American Samoa - Fifa.com

Former USA U-20 coach Thomas Rongen is set to guide American Samoa through its qualifying campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™.

The 55-year-old Dutchman will arrive in the South Pacific this month to prepare his new squad for next month's preliminary stage of the OFC Nations Cup, the first step on the FIFA World Cup qualification path.

Rongen, who led DC United to the MLS title in 1999 and his adopted country to the quarter-finals of the 2007 U-20 FIFA World Cup, is excited to have taken on a position he describes as a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity.

"I'm an explorer and it's a part of the world I've never been to," he says. "We'll do our best in qualifying but I hope to leave something tangible behind as well."

The former midfielder moved to the USA in 1979 to join the Los Angeles Aztecs before further stints at numerous other clubs in the States.

Rongen was one of the inaugural coaches in the MLS, taking the Tampa Bay Mutiny in their first season in 1996, during which time his side won the regular season while the Dutchman was named the league's coach of the year.

He moved on to New England Revolution and DC United before being named coach of the national U-20 side, whom he mentored from 2001 until a brief stint at Chivas USA in 2005. Rongen then returned to the national team fold and led USA at the 2007 and 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cups.

American Samoa, one of the smallest nations in world football, struggled at the recent Pacific Games in New Caledonia, losing all four matches.

Rongen will attempt to turn that form around in the preliminary tournament for the OFC Nations Cup, which takes place in Samoa from 22 to 26 November and pits American Samoa against the hosts, Cook Islands and Tonga.

Youth football coach facing sex abuse charges-Chicago Tribune

Youth football coach Crest Hill has been charged with sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old boy, officials said today.
