Bahamas, US Virgin Islands start-Fifa.com

 

Preliminary opening round of qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup ™ continued this weekend as Bahamas and the US Virgin Islands obtained by winning the CONCACAF.


In the first of their two-leg tie the Virgin Islands got their first victory in a qualifying match for the World Cup, beating close neighbours, the British Virgin Islands 2-0. An early strike by Alderman Lesmond provided a solid platform for the U.S. to build on, before Reid Klopp sewed up the win.


Klopp came close to adding a third moments later, but the possibility of the British island of a recovery was hampered when they were reduced to ten men with Jhon Samuel given marching orders. The result saw the Virgin Islands triple their overall score record, after scoring one and conceding 35 in their World Cup Qualifiers five earlier.


Elsewhere Bahamas , is a healthy lead in the race for the next round of qualifying by defeating the Turks and Caicos Islands 4-0 in their first leg away to Providenciales. Nesly Jean opened the scoring on 32 minutes before Cameron Hepple doubled three minutes late.


Jean got his second of the match on the hour mark before Jackner Louis seemingly wrapped up the tie with lens parried. They take advantage of four goals in 11 July in Nassau, while the Virgin Islands hoping to defend their advantage in Tortola, a day before.


This week will also see the beginning of preliminary region two other ties with Anguilla, Aruba, St Lucia hosting hosting on 8 July and Dominican Republic. Anguilla will go for the second leg for two days later while St Lucia will host the tie the end of their 12 July.
