Tejada scores twice as Trinity wins first State Football journey from 2003-STLtoday.com

SPRINGFIELD, ill. • The football team achieved a big goal triad Tuesday evening, winning 3-0 over Champaign Centennial for capturing the super-sectional 2A class at the University of Illinois Springfield.

Now comes the next obstacle.

"Our aim from the beginning of the period was to arrive in the country, '' Knight told senior Rachel Tejada after scoring twice in the third. 'Tonight was a challenge, just like getting started with (defending state champion) Althoff was a challenge. Triad, ranked fourth among large STLhighschoolsports.com schools, ran the record to 20-2-1 and advanced to take on Rimes College (15-6) in the semifinal 1 p.m. Friday at North Central College in Naperville.

Rimes Academy, which finished third in a year ago, beat Rimes St. Francis 2-0 in the third super-sectional at the University of the Benedictines of St. George in Lille.

The voyage of the State is the third for girls Trio. The Knights reached semifinals in 2002 and fell 1-0 in overtime at St. Viator in the class a championship game in 2003.

"We are very excited for tonight, '' said Madalyn VanPelt, junior."But there is still work to do. ''
