The two-day workshop for the preparation of pitch for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil™, held in Fortaleza (Ceara State), came to an end yesterday. The event brought together specialists in pitch from the host cities, with key guidelines put in place for all stadiums hosting matches Brazil in 2014.
The event starts Thursday, with the State Governor of Ceara, Cid Gomes, present along with representatives from FIFA and member of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Local Organising Committee (LOC).
FIFA organized the gathering to determine quality and durability standards applicable to all sites to use Brazil in 2014. According to the opinion of the governing body of world football, it is essential that all sites are managed, kept and cut according to the same guidelines.
A decision has yet to be done about the types of grass to be used for the tournament. This will be taken once the FIFA has conducted studies across the country, which has four different types of climate in the months of June and July, each with different models of rainfall. Construction of pitch is therefore a key factor when it comes to standardization of guidelines, such as irrigation and drainage systems will vary from venue to venue. Selected types of grass will offer durability, as well as the ability to regenerate quickly and adapt to any climate.
The host cities will receive guidelines for the construction of sites and equipment needed to maintain their before and after Brazil the 2014. Speakers at the Seminar emphasized the need for special care pitch in places with a cold climate, like tropical grass species have greater difficulty to settle at low temperatures. Pitch specialists will evaluate the projects submitted by cities that will host 12 in detail and provide their assistance in their implementation.
As Executive Director operations of LOC, Ricardo trade explained, the host cities have a great responsibility in ensuring that they get the right preparation step.
"As a country famous for its football team, the burden and the moral obligation is on us to stage a FIFA World Cup final, with each seat offering the same level of quality," he said. "This is our chance to show the world how good we are when we don't have the ball at our feet."
