2022 World Cup drives growth Project Qatar-insideworldfootball (blog)

Qatar_2022_logo30 April-Project Qatar 2011 has expanded greatly, largely thanks to the success of the country's bid to host the 2022 World Cup.

The exhibition building, which takes place, will open on 2 May and see in excess of 1700 companies fill the Doha Exhibition Centre, making it the largest event ever staged in Qatar.

"We have never seen a 52, 000m² exhibition space here, thanks to Qatar and won the right to host the 2022 World Cup and the vision of the country under the wise guidance of his Highness the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, "said Michele Gebreal, project manager of project Qatar 2011.

"We look forward to seeing greater participation in this issue, and we believe that the event will help drive key investment opportunities for growing segment of the construction of the country," he added.

Gebreal announced that Qatar Project, the patron of which is Prime Minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al-Thani, would be staged in two editions in 2012, one of which focuses on energy and electricity from 5 November to 7.

Project Qatar 2011 provides a strategic platform for key players of the construction industry to discuss issues and trends that affect their activities, as well as to showcase their products and services to buyers and sellers.

George Ayache, CEO of VET-Qatar, said: "all eyes are in Qatar as the preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with infrastructure projects amounted to more than 100 billion dollars (600 million pounds) over the next 12 years.

"This scale of construction projects is bound to attract the attention of construction companies from across the region to take part in project opportunities created by the favourable market conditions.

"Project Qatar 2011 aims to give the region a privileged venue for practitioners to meet, create and strengthen business ties.

"Project Qatar continues to play an important role in promoting the role of principal products and services in the construction industry in the region.

Exhibitors hail from 47 countries, the most visible of which will be the United Arab Emirates, and 16 Nations will be putting up national pavilions.

The likes of South Korea, France and the UK hope the event will strengthen trade relations with Qatar.

Dr Koo Heosung Korean Embassy said: "from 9.7 billion (£ 5.8 billion) in 2009, trade volume between Korea and Qatar rose to 12.2 billion ($ 7.3 billion pounds) last year.

"We have a strong presence of SMEs (small to medium enterprises), to the exhibition this year.

"They are the backbone of the economy, and we hope to witness growth on relations between SMEs of the two countries as Qatar has expressed keen interest to foster SMEs here."

Heavy Max 2011 and "Qatar Sustainability Conference 2011 will be held concurrently with Project Qatar.
